If you’re reading this, a lot has happened to make that possible.
The sun continued to emit light, and the planet kept rotating.
Untold millions of chemical reactions happened inside your body to keep you alive, nourish your heart and brain, and prompt you to wake up.
Entire industries devoted to power generation and transmission succeeded in delivering electricity to you.
Developers, engineers, testers, and managers deployed working software and hardware that managed to route tiny streams of ones and zeroes to your computing device in just the right way.
Your device didn’t croak overnight, including that it either held a charge or you remembered to charge it overnight.
The list could be endless. So what?
Grateful
It’s easy to focus on what’s wrong, what’s missing, what’s lacked or longed for.
Taking time to marvel at all of the things that go just the right way to make life as you know it possible is rare.
Even if the major things in your life are not as you wish, you still live in a world where petrichor is a thing. Where sunsets are beautiful and calming.
Hopefully, where other humans are happy that you’re a part of their lives.
I’m grateful for your presence in the world
For your successes and your mistakes, your wins and your failures, your pride and humility.
The “good” things and the “bad” things, that make up an account of what you’ve done, not who you are.
Maybe, if you will, take a moment before the year ends, and look at everything that’s happened in the past year in a different way. All the things that had to be just a certain way, even when we take that for granted.
And then look forward to the new year with an eye on all the miraculous things that surround you every day.
You can do this. I can help.
